Microsoft bets on data strategies

Microsoft is betting on data strategies and Artificial Intelligence to boost organizations.

*The company has officially unveiled SQL Server 2017 in Spain, available on Linux, Windows, and Docker, to enable all organizations to embrace cloud-based Artificial Intelligence.
*Microsoft, with the support of Intel, Red Hat, Attunity, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, has delved into the strategies that enable organizations to transform their processes and lead their industries.

Microsoft held an event in Spain today, where customers and partners learned firsthand how data strategies and Artificial Intelligence are enabling many organizations to lead in their industries. During the event, Microsoft, with the support of Intel, Red Hat, Attunity, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, delved into the strategies that enable organizations to transform their processes and gain competitive advantages thanks to SQL Server 2017.

The company took the opportunity to officially unveil the latest version of the world’s most widely used relational database, which is now available on Linux, Docker, and Windows. SQL Server 2017 brings Microsoft’s industry-leading relational database engine to the enterprise Linux ecosystem. This includes SQL Server Agent authentication, Active Directory, class-leading disaster recovery/high availability, and unmatched data security features. This new version of Microsoft SQL Server reflects the company’s vision of providing every organization with the tools they need to achieve their goals.

We are currently witnessing a massive transformation in the database market, and Microsoft is uniquely positioned to drive that transformation with the knowledge gained from using its products. This enables new features such as Adaptive Query Processing and APRC—essentially «intelligent» database features—that maximize the value of the technology customers use and allow them to focus on their goals.

Among the most notable general features of SQL Server 2017 are:

*Choice of languages and platforms: Microsoft has integrated leading open source programming languages, such as R and Python, to enable customers to build modern applications using the language of their choice, both locally and in the cloud, and now also in Windows, Linux, and Docker containers.

*Industry-leading performance: Scalability, performance, and availability have been enhanced to enable any customer to develop their projects in any scenario, supporting critical intelligent applications and data warehouses. SQL Server boasts the highest TPC-E performance levels for transaction processing, the highest TPC-H performance levels for data warehousing, and the highest performance levels with cutting-edge enterprise applications. 2 In April 2017, Hewlett Packard Enterprise posted a new world record of 1TB TPC-H with SQL Server 2017 running on Linux. 3

*Security: According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Public Security Advisory, among the major database vendors, SQL Server is the product with the fewest security vulnerabilities (NIST, 2016).

*Real-time intelligence: SQL Server 2017 enables organizations to obtain real-time analytics at a speed of one million predictions per second. This translates into greater agility and competitiveness in an increasingly demanding environment.

*Data exploitation: It is now possible to convert raw data into useful reports by leveraging Business Intelligence capabilities and distribute reports to any type of device, such as smartphones, at a cost that is only one-fifth of other alternatives.

In short, with SQL Server 2017, now available on Linux, Docker, and Windows, Microsoft is committed to making the world’s most widely used database platform available to all organizations, driving a reliable, robust, and secure data platform focused on customers’ transformational needs.
